X Sand Sculpture Festival – July 12 – August 31, 2011

The X International Festival of Sand Sculptures will take place at the beach of Peter and Paul Fortress. The Festival has become a traditional event and is included in the list of European championships of sand sculptures. More and more masters express their wish to participate in it. This year over 60 world-recognized sculptors are taking part in the event – they are from Australia, Austria, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Switzerland, Finland, etc. A very interesting theme chosen for the Festival this year, namely “World Culture Masterpieces”, allows the participants to express their imagination and creativity in full and to shape their sculptures based on the world masterpieces in the areas of architecture, sculpture, literature, music, cinema, etc.

On July 7, the Festival started with the casting of lots and the sculptors began working. On July 12, after the midday cannon shooting at Peter and Paul Fortress, the jury members will declare the names of the winners, after which there will be an award ceremony. The ceremony will be accompanied with music from a brass band; there will be clowns acting as “live sculptures”, representing different styles and epochs. At the background of the panoramic sight the winners of the Festival will be given prizes, awards, and gifts from the Festival sponsors and partners. The ceremony will be completed with a concert of Capella “Tavricheskaya”.

The Festival will offer a number of charity and social events, including the traditional contest of sand sculptures for children, workshops, etc. The jubilee Festival will become a bright event in the summer life of St. Petersburg, raising the spirits of the guests. The theme of the festival is different every year. Don’t forget to take your camera when going there! The exhibition will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. till the end of the summer.
