St. Petersburg Palaces International Music Festival

News: 2011-05-11

Welcome to the 19-th “St. Petersburg Palaces” International Music Festival (May 25 – June 30, 2011)

It is one of the most beautiful festivals of the Northern capital, held in the parade halls of St. Petersburg palaces. The best works of classical music from different epochs will be performed by outstanding Russian and international performers during the period of the White Nights. A dozen of luxurious palaces, which used to belong to Russian monarchs and aristocrats, located in and outside the city will host the festival.

Its artistic director and all-time participant, a well-known violinist Maria Safaryants thinks, that the idea to host the festival in such interiors ensures the success of the festival. Moreover, each year the festival expands its geography as one or two more restored palaces open their doors or some new musicians are introduced to the public, thus attracting the audiences from all over the world.

“Culture has been accumulated for ages, like gold sand. I’m sure, that our festival has been making its own contribution to the world’s cultural heritage. We are very happy to make people’s lives more beautiful and enjoyable,” M. Safaryants says. In her opinion, “St. Petersburg Palaces” is the most refined festival to popularize the classical music”. The founder of the Festival is the conductor and composer Konstantin Orbelyan.

Established in 1990, this festival has become an outstanding annual event in the cultural life of the city. One more project, introduced last year is called “Palaces of two Russian capitals” – it means, that one of the concerts will be held in the Moscow Kremlin Armoury.

The 19th festival is devoted to the Year of Italy in Russia, that’s why Italian music will be widely presented in the program and the richest Italian culture will be reigning at the festival…

Every year I visit a few concerts of this festival and – believe me – they are really great!!! I’m looking forward to going there again…

You also have a chance to gain unforgettable impressions, when listening terrific music in the imperial residencies of St. Petersburg.
