It is hard to imagine a new interpretation of Van Gogh’s art but the multimedia exhibition ”Van Gogh Alive” does break the mould. This highly ambitious project of the Australian company ”Grande Exhibitions” will not leave you indifferent to the artist himself or his masterpieces.

The exhibition is situated in a special pavilion in the heart of St Petersburg on Konyushennaya Square. It covers the last period of the artist’s life, between 1880 and 1890, when Van Gogh worked in Arles, Saint-Rémy and Auvers-sur-Oise. This was the time when he created his unquestioned masterpieces such as ”Sunflowers” and ”Starry night.” The exhibition shows about 3.000 pictures related to the life of the genius. It enables visitors not only to satisfy their curiosity about one of the most influential artists of his epoch but to discover the unique world of Van Gogh’s paintings.

The exhibition will definitely impress you by this new approach to the relation between an exhibit and a visitor. Once you enter the darkened halls of the pavilion you dive into colourful universe of landscapes Van Gogh saw and depicted on canvas. Due to a new technology called ”Sensory4TM” a visitor can see paintings in greater detail. With images displayed on huge screens all over the pavilion you almost feel yourself part of a painting. The exhibition gets even more emotional being accompanied by music of old and present-day composers such as Franz Liszt and Yann Tiersen.

St -Petersburg is not the only city fascinated by this undoubtedly brilliant exhibition. It has already been shown in Chile, Italy, Hungary and the USA attracting over 1,5 million people of all ages. For the citizens of St Petersburg it was opened in May 2014 and due to undying interest of local people and tourists will be extended until the 31st of October.
