On May 16th will be the Night of Museums in St Petersburg. It is an annual event devoted to International Museum Day.
This event is international; nowadays 42 countries of Europe (about 2,000 museums) take part in it every year. The main goal of the event is to show the potential of museums and galleries and to draw attention of younger generations to culture, history, and art.
The event first took place in Berlin during the year 1997 under the name of “A long night of museums.” Later France joined in and so did other countries.
In Moscow the first event took place in 2007, and St Petersburg in 2008 with 33 museums participating and about 24,000 visitors.
This year 97 museums and galleries are taking part in the Night of Museums in St Petersburg. Most of the museums will be open until 6:00 am (some only till 11:00 pm) offering special exhibitions, concerts, excursions, master-classes, historical reconstructions, etc.
It is possible to get a ticket with which you can visit all the museums during the night! St Petersburg metro stations will be working all night long.
If you are visiting St Petersburg this weekend, don’t miss this unique opportunity to enjoy these events!
